Spearfishing is a wonderful sport that can be thought as both a workout and a hobby. It takes no more than having the courage and being comfortable amongst a vast array of underwater organisms that may or may not harm you. As long as you respect nature, in return, nature will return the favor with the same respect.
Ever since I was a little kid, I loved fishing and everything that had to deal with fish. My dad would take me often with him as his companion for night cliff fishing. I cannot tell you how much I fell in love with it. As I grew older, there were magazines of spearfishermen who would be surrounded with many fish and as they stalk their prey, their hard work in technique pays off in the end with the day's catch. Seeing this, the greatest thing I have always wanted to do was to swim in the vast ocean and be the one to experience this breath-taking wonder that not everyone has the chance to do.
The underwater environment that I have first encountered has tweaked me into loving the waters even more. The first time I have went out into deeper waters outside the reef I felt uncomfortable. I have always been afraid of the deep blue, especially after watching Jaws... whooo, I didn't think I would stand a chance out there. However, after several dives out in the waters and also coming into contact with reef sharks, I have come to accept and be a bit more calm underwater with the fish and organisms.
“It plagues you no matter how much you try in your everyday life. It never leaves you. It’s something that has been placed in the heart of men from the beginning of time. The drive to hunt, to brave the element and rise victorious. The dream is not just any hunt, but the perfect hunt. A trying environment and the challenging prey, prey that tests your very limits and brings you to the place where you desperately find yourself asking for its render. This is the dream, this is what the heart searches for, this is what leaves you with an unending thirst. And when you've found it, it only leaves you craving for more. The dream of the spearo is the deep blue, full with abundant and powerful fish, like the sailfish, barracuda, and wahoo.”
